You can block a website for many reasons. To avoid viruses, spams, unwanted adds, unsuitable content for kids etc. Google chrome automatically blocks websites which spread viruses. But for blocking for all other reason you need an app.
The best of that kind is Hide Tools (HT). It is an easy and a free way to block website in google chrome.

How to block using HT :-

• In the controls menu, click on 'website blocking' . 
• Click on the add button, near 'banned wishlist' . 
• Add the sad web address.
• click on apply.
• Your done.

Websites can also be blocked using google chrome settings but it has a lot of disadvantages.

• It cant block a group of websites.
• It is easy to bypass.
• It blocks only the main page of the website.
• It is not universal
